Update on the Japanese Beetles

The beetles are still around although fewer in number with the spray that my husband had purchased for me. My beautiful hanging plants are looking really sick at the moment. I've had to wonder the baskets were doing great and then I decided to use those stick fertilizer's to help them bloom even more maybe that is what drew the japanese beetles. Any thoughts?
